In 2019, Mar Seafood partnered with Bela Vista Shellfish and Marina, the largest hard shell clam buyer in Rhode Island. Bela Vista sits on the channel of Warwick Cove, making it a very easy destination for fishermen by boat. Their new state of the art facility has a reputation on the water for being the cleanest in Rhode Island. Consisting of a fully functioning cooler and counting machine, Bela Vista creates a unique and easy experience for each of their fishermen. With upwards of 40 docking slips and a large open docking area, fishermen are able to dock their boats and pull up to the building in an easy fashion to unload their catch. Bela Vista remains one of the last marinas in Warwick that consist of only fishermen. In the State of Rhode Island, all hard-shell clams are harvested by hand by each individual fisherman, there is no dredging allowed. The methods used include hand raked, diving, or shore digging. Most fisherman of RI prefer the hand raking method in which the use of long aluminum pole and a large basket with rake teeth are used to scrape the Narragansett Bay floor looking for clams. This method solely relies on the wind, tides, and currents to help them harvest. Each fisherman operates of their own free will with their own boats and equipment. Once the harvest is brought the Bela Vista, this is where it is cleaned, sorted, counted, and placed in mesh bags to be put in the cooler for shipping the next day.
